We are pleased to inform you that an International Conference on “The Right to Education for Every Child: Removing Systemic Barriers to Full Integration of Roma Children” will be held on 2 - 3 June 2009 in Belgrade, Serbia, within the Decade of Roma Inclusion.

The overall goal of the Conference is to review the results achieved in the improvement in education of Roma during 5 years of the Decade and to further elaborate the road map for ensuring the fulfillment of universal right to quality education for Roma children beyond Decade.

The Conference will examine the importance of starting and including children early in education; monitoring and ending segregation and sustaining integration; ensuring access and coverage in regular schooling; classroom and school environment supportive to education quality and changes in financing education system to enable inclusion. There will be opportunity to learn from the state-of the-art knowledge and exchange good practices and lessons learnt.

Each Roma Decade country is expected to be represented by 5 representatives including Roma Decade National Coordinator, high rank senior official from Ministry of Education, education experts and practitioners and relevant Roma NGO representatives. Invitations are being extended also to delegates of Roma civil society, academics and researchers, international organizations, agencies concerned with social issues and different donors.

An Outcome document, drafted prior to the conference, will be discussed at the conference, enriched by working groups deliberations and adopted by the participants.

The conference will include plenary sessions, thematic panels and parallel working groups.

The official conference languages will be English, Serbian and Romanes with simultaneous interpretation provided.

The organizers will cover the costs for the participants i.e. the accommodation based on full board and transportation.
